Looking for unique things to do in Perth? This half-day glass art workshop covers the basic skills for making pot melts using leftover glass.
What you'll learn:- Glass under hot firing
- Colour combinations
- Preparing glass for putting into the pot
- Slumping onto a mould
- Basic firing schedule
You will make one glass piece using 1kg of glass. This will then be slumped into a bowl using either metal or ceramic moulds.
Over tea or coffee, your teacher will explain the idea behind pot melts and show you some examples. In the studio you will pick out your glass for the pot melt and load your pot. Glass will include 50% of clear glass. Sheet and frit can be used and some pieces may need cutting. You can also use glass that has already been fired.
You will then clean your glass and assemble it into the kiln and the basic firing schedule will be discussed. Pick your bowl moulds and we'll show you how to prepare moulds.
In a few days time, collect your glass art to take home and admire!
Please note: your slumped pieces will be available 3-5 days after the workshop. You will need to come back to the studio to pick up or we can arrange to send the finished works.
